My book "Islam Without Fear" 9/25/12

I selected the book "Islam Without Fear" ,as I am Muslim and feel like that my religion is being misunderstood by many people for reasons that varies from : Extremism , lack of knowledge about Islam , Political reasons and the actions of few bad seeds claiming to act in the name Islam .
I am hoping that the knowledge that I would gain from reading this book will help me have some accurate insight about the principles of Islam that I will be able to share with others.

The author of the book is:Baker, Raymond William, 1942

The title of the book is: "Islam Without Fear"

The book was printed by HARVARD UNIVERSITY PRESS in Boston and London in 2003

As I was walking in the library , I came across this book titled "Islam without Fear" by Raymond William Baker from the year 1942.The author had it printed by Harvard University Press in Boston and London in 2003.
I found the title "Islam Without Fear" very interesting ,as I believe that many people associate Islam with violence without taking their time to understand that in every religion you will find extremist in them and moderate as well .
To best illustrate my thoughts , I would like to use this quote: "O mankind! We created yu from a single (pair)of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise each other). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of God is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And God has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). Quran, Surah:49:13 "Islam Without Fear" page (13) from the beginning , by Raymond William Baker from the year 1942 and printed by Harvard University Press in Boston and London in 2003.

Cleo's shopping adventure ( homework of 9/18/12)

Ladies & Gentlemen, I would like to share with you a short story about a young lady named Cleo in her search for a neon skirt to attend a techno party .

On a beautiful day of summer , Cleo woke up with the desire to purchase a neon skirt for a techno party that she's planning to attend . Cleo went to this high fashion boutique in town called "Diva" that is usually open only for people with a membership. But, on this day, the shop was open to the public and she came across a new skirt and it happened to be a neon skirt an exact replica of what she had in mind
Another customer is looking at the skirt, Cleo picks it up and goes to try it on, to check the price then walks to the cashier to pay for it. She had to wait in line as a priority was given to members first then the general public. While waiting , Cleo checks for the money as the money is in her pocket. Unfortunately, a hole is burning in her pocket and Cleo could not find the money .She decides to use her credit card , but the cashier closes the register as she hopes to pay.Bummer, she's disappointed and decides against it . She leaves the boutique and she tries not to think about the skirt any more .Restlessness occurs during the night as Cleo kept thinking about the skirt. The next day , she returns to the boutique and she buys the skirt.

This feels so good. Elation. She takes it home where she tries it on again. Cleo just realize  that it fits none of her other clothes. She 's thinking and ask herself what now? Cleo decides to go look for a top that will match with the new skirt .
I hope that you have enjoyed reading this story and I am looking forward to the next one .

Group 8:Plagiarism :9-18 Homework (Mohamed, Yang Qu, Yifu Chen

As a group, we consulted one another and each of us went on to read what we posted in our respective blogs. After reading the blogs, Mohamed went on to write the introduction for the presentation.

Yifu Chen did the research on the different definitions that we have listed in our presentation. He found the definitions that we used, one from http://www.plagiarism.org/plag_article_what_is_plagiarism.html 9/11/12  another one from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagiarism 9/11/12
Mohamed shared a very recent  case of plagiarism that was done by a famous journalist of CNN (Fareed Zakaria ) .He got his information from the New York Times website where there was an article wrote on this case . “A scandal Threatens Zakaria's Image as a Media Star" from the New York Times written by CHRISTINE HAUGNEY, August, 19, 2012.

Yang Qu shared his personal views on plagiarism in china and gave us an example from an associate professor in Tong Ji University. http://www.forbes.com/2010/05/26/china-cheating-innovation-markets-economy-plagiarism.html  9/11/12 . Yang Qu found during his research that the goal of college education is to teach students how to produce original thoughts and analyze ideas. Plagiarism adds nothing new and does not show that the student has learned nothing. http://www.ehow.com/facts_5972805_plagiarism-important - issue-college_.html 9/11/12

Yifu Chen and Mohamed worked together to find different ideas on how to avoid plagiarism. They did some research on Leo that helped them find some good examples on how to avoid plagiarism. As a group, we decided to list two different ways on how to avoid plagiarism.

The goal of our group was to bring awareness about plagiarism as we found it as a form of crime, but it is viewed differently in different parts of the world. In poor countries and some countries where laws are not enforced, it goes unpunished .While in developed countries, there’s a financial aspect that is linked to it. People found guilty of plagiarism in America and other western countries have to pay a fine and pay a monetary compensation to the one they stole the idea from.

In poor countries , there’s a high level  of illiteracy and people tend to worry more about how to find what to eat than paying attention to who has copied someone’s else idea .

Here’s the list of our resources:

Leo.com

We found the resources very helpful, as they helped us get some accurate information that we cross referenced with other information and had a better idea of what we were trying to achieve as a goal for our group.

During the research that we have conducted, we came across so many valuable data that we sometime didn’t know which one to use .We consulted one another and ended up choosing the one’s that better reflect the goal that we were trying to achieve.

Group 8 : Topic "Plagiarism"

As a group we chose Plagiarism as a topic to present on. We found it very interesting to write about as it happens everywhere around the world ,but the punishment for it is not as severe as other forms of crime.

We would like to start by giving our readers three different definition of plagiarism that we found during the research that we conducted on this topic :

1. “Copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not” http://www.plagiarism.org/plag_article_what_is_plagiarism.html 9/11/12
2.Plagiarism is defined in dictionaries as the "wrongful appropriation," "close imitation," or "purloining and publication" of another author's "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions,"(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagiarism) 9/11/12

There's a recent case of plagiarism that happened with a famous journalist Fareed Zakaria of CNN where he used another author's work without using as reference .This act led to his suspension from the network and will probably hurt his credibility from now on . To best reflect my thoughts , this article " A scandal Threatens Zakaria's Image as a Media Star" from the New York Times written by CHRISTINE HAUGNEY, August,19,2012 is a good illustration of it . 9/11/12
In China, some people don't care about plagiarism .The reason is that the laws in China doesn't enforce it as much as it is in the United States . The world view is that China's plagiarism problem poses a risk to innovation and further economic growth . An example of plagiarism in China include an associate professor at Tongi University who resigned from his position after plagiarizing a test given to his students from a test given at another college.http://www.forbes.com/2010/05/26/china-cheating-innovation-markets-economy-plagiarism.html 9/11/12
To conclude we would like to talk about how to avoid plagiarism . Some ideas that we would like to share are:
  1.  Become informed:do not say "I don't know" you can found many information from the website and remember to cite and cross reference your sources.
  2. Use quotation marks when using someone's else work and always cite it as reference .
And also  we would like to bring awarness about this topic by hoping that people who will end up reading our blog and pass on the knowledge to others.

Leo Topic assignment : Plagiarism

I chose plagiarism as topic to write about on this blog . I found it very interesting to write about as it happens everywhere around the world ,but the punishment for it is not as severe as other forms of crime.

I would like to start by giving my readers three different definition of plagiarism that I found during the research that I conducted on this topic :

  • Plagiarism: "When writers intentionally or unintentionally present another person's words, ideas, or work as their own" Leo.stcloudstate.edu/research/plagiarism.htm 9/5/12
  • Plagiarism:"Wrongful appropriation" "Close imitation" "Purloining and Publication" of another authors language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions and the representation of them as one's own original work" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/plagiarism 9/5/12
  • Plagiarism: "Act or instance of using or closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and representation of that author's work as one's own, as by not crediting the original author" Dictionary.reference.com/browsw/plagiarism 9/5/12
To best illustrate these definitions , I could use this example : "For students, it will be passing off another student paper or work as their own " Leo.stcloudstate.edu/reseach/plagiarism 9/5/12

Some best ways to avoid plagiarism will be to always use quotation  marks when using someone else's work and always cite it as reference . When working on a assignment, avoid waiting until the last minute to do the work or you'll probably end up imitating another person's work and doing plagiarism.

Finally, I would like to bring awareness about this topic ,as others have certainely tried before me. I am hoping that whoever reads my blog will end up passing on the knowledge to others.

My poorest author of story-in-a-box

The author showed a lack of focus on his work as the text was full of grammatical errors . To best illustrate my thoughts here's a quote from the text "It was surprised to see ma ny amazing items" . While reading the text , you can see a lack of connection into the ideas that the authoris attempting to create into the story .

My second best author of story-in-a-box

The story was pleasant to read and the author had a well written text with a catchy title that sparked my interest to read the story til the end of it . The catchy title is" Dream of Happiness" . With a title like this , as a reader you are intrigue about how the story goes and what the end will be .

My best author of story-in-a-box

It was a pleasure reading my best author of story-in-a -box . The story was well written and kept my attention while i was reading it . The author was able to make the story believable and put things in order so that the reader can't stop reading it . It is definetely a story that i would recommend to my family members and friends to read to their children for a bedtime story . I would like to use quotation from the author story to reflect my judgement on it as it was pleasant to read from the start .
